Apply for a grant
Applicants for the relief of poverty and for support with educational courses who are under the age of 26 years should complete the GrantAPPLICATIONSforms preferably returned via email (PDF file is also available). In the current economic climate post graduate applications will only be considered in exceptionally difficult personal circumstances.
Organisations should use the separate Organisations Application Form and preferably return on line (PDF file is also available). Please note that our constitution does not allow grants to be made for business projects.
The form should be emailed or posted to the Grants Secretary along with any attachments or enclosures.
For applications for projects to educate young people in the principles of vegetarianism please contact the Grants’ Secretary, in the first instance, for assistance on what information will be required by the Trustees and how it should be presented.
From receiving a completed application form with ALL documents as requested, it takes approximately three months before any award to successful applicants is available in their bank account.
We advise that it is in your own best interest to apply as soon as you are able.
Our individual grants are usually in the region of £500 with a maximum of £1000. If an applicant requires considerably more than this amount then the Trustees need to know how the remainder will be raised so they are assured the project is affordable.
The next deadline date for applications is 2 April 2012 . Applicants will be informed of the Trustees’ decision by the end of May 2012 at the latest.
Our grants to organisations are usually £1000-£2000 maximum
How we assess grant applications
When considering applications the Trustees take into account efforts made by applicants to improve their financial situation. Any evidence of employment or efforts made to find work (or conversely reasons why they have been unable to do so, such as medical certificates) should be included. The Trustees also look to see a clear commitment by applicants to a vegetarian or vegan diet.
Should you submit an application with all the appropriate information, your two references confirming your vegetarianism will be taken up. All your information will be circulated to our nine Trustees. The Trustees make their decision based on your application via an e-mail vote stating whether they recommend a grant and, if so, the amount they think should be awarded. These responses are then calculated by the Grants Secretary to determine whether the majority of Trustees are in favour of an award being made and, if this is the case, an average of the amounts awarded by Trustees is given to the applicant.
We will let you know the Charity’s decision just as soon as this procedure has been completed. You will appreciate that it may take some time to circulate the required information and collate the responses and it is recommended that applications are made, where possible, well in advance of when assistance is required (eg. prior to starting courses or new school years). Applications for support for projects to educate young people in the principles of vegetarianism are usually considered by the Trustees at the Charity’s bi-annual meetings.
